LITHOGRAPHY
When she first tried to study-
formally—
they told her her sex
precluded her.
The stone—they said—requires
a man to lift it.
The second time she tried—
formally—
he said—of course—
then pointed to the stone
that was her trial and
with which Resurrection
would not have come.
The third time—
formally—
he—of course he—gave her
a stone to lift, but also
a hand in lifting—
her greasy marks
ready for ink,
a smaller picture,
no less detailed.
